However, Hachem ended up giving up his mainstream career due to a rare blood disorder. After this "stop" in his life, Hachem decided to play poker in 1995. In this period, Hachem invested his time in playing in casinos and in online events.

In addition, Joseph also started working at a brokerage in Pascoe Vale, but his poker activities took up all his time. However, Hachem confessed in an interview that his temper made it very difficult for him to focus on the game, and that was something he had to learn to deal with.

After that, in 2000, Joseph decided to move away from casual gaming and regularly face tournaments in Melbourne at the Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex. At that time, Hachem attended several live cash tournaments, and spent five years in these disputes. However, everything changed in 2005.

Triumph in poker

In 2005, shortly before playing that year's World Series of Poker, Joseph ventured into the Bicycle Hotel & Casino in Bell Gardens, California. Here, Hachem played a table of Texas Hold'em No Limit and overheard one of the players make a joke about Hachem being the new "Australian champion", and that sent him headlong into the World Series of Poker.

As a result, Hachem entered the WSOP as a completely unknown player, and during the series he reached tenth place in the $1,000 Hold'em tournament, pocketing the sum of $25,850. However, two weeks passed and the main event arrived.

In the 2005 World Series of Poker $10,000 Texas Hold'em Main Event, Joseph Hachem had the arduous task of facing 5,618 players. However, the Lebanese's focus and goal took him to the final table formation, and the player crossed the 3-handed with grandiosity. As a result, Joseph Hachem became the first Australian champion of a World Series of Poker main event, and shelved the sum of $7,500,000!

The following year, in 2006, Joseph Hachem returned to the World Series of Poker and played in the $2,500 No Limit event. Here, the Lebanese Australian had to face 1,068 competitors to reach the final table formation. Despite his excellent campaign, Hachem ended up being eliminated in second place, but took in the sum of $256,800 for the runner-up.

Not happy with that, Joseph still played at the $2,500 Hold'em table, and faced 562 players. Here, the grinder ended up busting in fourth place and taking home $90,482.

However, Hachem still took the opportunity to play in the Main Event again. From his registration, Hachem had the arduous task of facing 8,773 competitors, and even proceeded in the competition. However, the grinder was eliminated in the 238th position, taking home $42,882. Reportedly, in the year 2006 alone, Hachem had earned more than $2.2 million, and had even taken home a World Poker Tour title.
